As artists we rely heavy on information extracted from history. Yet, most often that information comes to us 2nd, 3rd or 45th hand, filtered through many interpretations before it reaches us. What new creative insights can be gained by going to primary sources? What is the real world history that informs the art you make?

Our guest this week is

Shane McInnis

From Shane:

“I was born in 1983 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and grew up in the home of a Teller of Tales and a Teacher. I like to think that a bit of both of my parents made me turn out the way that I did. My friends and I have always had overactive imaginations and voracious appetites for learning. I attended William Carey University where I received a Bachelor Degree in History. I got married just after and taught high school for six years. That's when I decided that I needed to go back to school and get my Master in Ancient Imperial History from William Carey, which I completed in 2015. Since then, I have been teaching in one capacity or another, and in 2018 I got a full-time job teaching History at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. I still have an overactive imagination and have been lucky enough to have several works of historical fiction published. I still read just about everything I can grab. And I love to travel. Overall, I have a passion for history and a love of teaching!”
